ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Abstract: »Rape-and-revenge narratives have traditionally been viewed as seeking justice by vengeance outside the law. However, this article argues that a new type of revenge, termed ‘restorative revenge’, offers a fresh insight into the pursuit of justice in cases of sexual violence. ‘Restorative revenge’ reclaims the narrative about revenge and justice by connecting it to feelings of reparation and healing. By undertaking a comparative analysis of Emerald Fennell’s film Promising Young Woman (2020) and a real-life incident involving the accusation of sexual harassment against Harvard Anthropology Professor John Commaroff, this paper aims to explore experimental and creative ideas surrounding sexual violence, justice, and accountability. The analysis will be grounded in the ongoing feminist discourse around justice with a specific anthropological lens.« (Source: Article)
